Teen Killed As Car Went Airborne During I-95 Crash: State Police
The accident shutdown the highway for several hours Monday in New London County.

EAST LYME, CT — Interstate 95 southbound was shutdown by exit 74 for several hours on Monday due to a fatal motor vehicle accident, police said. The accident was reported around 2 a.m.
Joey Gaudreau-Mitchell, 18, of Marybelle Drive in Storrs, was killed in the single-vehicle accident, State Police said.
Gaudreau-Mitchell was driving a 2019 Toyota Camry west in the left lane of I-95, near exit 73, in East Lyme. He traveled out of the left lane, across the left shoulder, and into the median, where it struck a delineator post, State Police said.

Gaudreau-Mitchell's vehicle traveled back into the left lane, across the right lane, and into the right shoulder, where it entered into a counterclockwise spin, State Police said. The car struck a concrete base and a guardrail end which sent the vehicle airborne, State Police.
"While airborne, (vehicle one) rolled over before striking a tree with its right side. The engine compartment continued west before coming to rest approximately 50 (feet) from (vehicle one), which came to final rest on its driver's side facing south against the tree," State Police said in a report. He was pronounced dead at the scene. State Police are investigating.
