2 Injured, Man Arrested In East Lyme DUI Crash

A man was arrested following a Saturday afternoon wreck.

EAST LYME, CT — A man was arrested for driving under the influence following an East Lyme car crash that injured two people, according to police. Brandon Stephenson, 32, of East Lyme, was charged with improper passing, illegal operation under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of narcotics.

Police said they responded shortly before four p.m. Saturday to 209 Flanders Road for a report of a rollover crash.

In the accident, Stephenson was in a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze traveling south on Flanders Road when his car struck the rear of a Mazda 6, according to police.

The Chevy then veered to the left and went up a grassy hill onto the front lawn of a Dunkin Donuts. The Mazda veered right off the road and rolled over into a gully.

Stephenson, who police said showed signs of impairment, suffered minor injuries in the wreck and was arrested.

The driver of the Mazda was transported to L&M Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Stephenson was released on $5,000 bond and a promise to appear in court.
