Controversial East Lyme Dollar General Moves Forward

Plans to demolish two buildings to make way for a Dollar General store are moving ahead.

EAST LYME, CT — A Dollar General store slated for construction in Flanders will go forward despite the pandemic and opposition from some neighbors, according to The Day. A developer submitted site and building plans to the town's land use department recently.

Two buildings will be demolished at 144 Boston Post Road for the project to move forward. However, more than a thousand residents have signed a petition opposing construction, stating that it will result in the demolition of the historic Flowers House, The Day reported.
