Old Saybrook, CT – Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe visits The Kate this coming Tuesday, February 11, 2020 while supporting their latest release, “Gnomes and Badgers”. Mr. Denson works within what many refer to as the jam band idiom; however, his sax playing transcends any labels one may assign. Karl may be compared to someone like Maceo Parker, another musician rarely confined by boundaries other than the notes one may extract from their instrument. Undoubtedly the Rolling Stones thought highly enough of Karl’s abilities to tap him to occupy the chair formerly held by the legendary Bobby Keyes. Karl Denson is a former Navy man and that work ethic remains part of who he is at his core. Denson tours relentlessly with his various projects such as Tiny Universe, The Greyboy Allstars, the “Sticky Fingers” tribute to the Stones or his “Eat a Bunch of Peaches” nod to the Allman Brothers Band. Karl asserted that his primary mission is to keep his live shows fresh. His outfit is as comfortable at The Gathering of the Vibes Tiny Universe at Gathering of the Vibes 2015 as they are at Newport Jazz Festival. Karl Denson at Newport Jazz Festival. Karl’s vocal prowess and showmanship does not take a back seat to his stellar sax skills. Tiny Universe will most assuredly play fan favorites as well as tracks from the most recent release, “Gnomes and Badgers”. The recording title hints at Karl’s displeasure with the divisive state of discourse in the political arena at present. The tune “What if You Knew”, fits the overall theme of the recording as does "Change My Way". Karl remains busy writing new tunes, recording and working on his sci-fi novel that is fifteen years in the making but nearing completion.

Mr. Carty produced and hosted blues, jazz and American roots radio shows in Boston and Pittsburgh. He booked legendary acts such as Jay Geils, Big Jack Johnson, Alvin "Youngblood" Hart, Steady Rollin' Bob Margolin to name a few. As a concert producer he has worked with members of the Allman Brothers, Guns and Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bad Company, Chuck Berry, Alice Cooper, Kiss and many others. Jim was proudly tapped as the host of the Centennial Celebration of the Blues at Tanglewood.
