Lyme Farmhouse Appears on HGTV's "We Bought the Farm"
Four shoreline homes are featured in HGTV's new reality TV series about homeowners looking for luxury farm homesteads.
What does your dream home look like? I bet as soon as you read that question, your mind conjured up images of your heart’s hearth hopes.
For home-seekers Claire and Steve, their idea of a dream home stemmed from one place and one place alone — the countryside. The two set out to buy a farm in Connecticut, where they could grow their own food and lead a more self-sustaining lifestyle.
If a farmhouse is your dream too, or you watch the local real estate scene with relish, you’ll be thrilled to know that you can join Claire and Steve on their adventure for a new abode on HGTV’s reality television show, “We Bought the Farm.”
“We Bought the Farm” follows families as they search for the farm homestead of their dreams. Viewers will get to see a wide range of farm properties from across the United States, from large to small.
Madison agent Heather Clinton of William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty brings Claire and Steve to see four homes on the shoreline, ultimately leading them to the purchase of their dream farmhouse.
“I was absolutely thrilled to show Claire and Steve so many stunning farm properties around the region,” said Clinton. “The entire experience, from finding them their dream home to filming the show, was truly rewarding, and I look forward to seeing it all come to life during its April HGTV premiere.”
The episode, titled “We Want to Be Connecticut Yankees,” will debut at 11 p.m. Saturday, April 16, and air again at 2 a.m. Sunday, April 17.

18 Cemetery Rd., Colchester
This property features more than 12 acres and overlooks a pond and towering pines. The house was built in 1970 and has several fireplaces, exposed beams in some of the rooms and an expansive patio.
The Old Shailer Farmhouse, 256 Cedar Swamp Rd., Deep River
The Old Shailer Farmhouse boasts a renovated cape-style residence set on more than two acres of manicured grounds, neighboring fruit trees, Shailer Pond and hundreds of acres of protected state forest land with hiking and riding trails.
Wide-board chestnut floors, vaulted and beamed ceilings, three fireplaces and two outbuildings add to the farmhouse’s charm.
52 Tower Hill Rd., Killingworth
This property is described by Clinton as a “gentleman’s farm property.” Situated in a serene, private setting, the property contains a remodeled, antique post and beam cape-style residence and a two-story, four-stall barn, within close proximity to Hammonasset Beach and State Forest trails.
318 Grassy Hill Rd., Lyme
The mini-farm property comes with a six-bay carriage barn and tack room. The whole house is one-level and the tack room has a woodburning stove, for those cold New England winters.
