Man Had 120 Bags Of Heroin In East Lyme: Police

A man was charged after police pulled his pickup truck over and found a large quantity of heroin.

EAST LYME, CT — A man is facing multiple charges after he was found with more than 120 bags of heroin in his vehicle, according to East Lyme police. John Mitchell, 34, of Gales Ferry, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, possession with intent, possession of drug paraphernalia, and several other charges Saturday afternoon.

He was released on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 14.

Police said they received a call shortly before 2 p.m. regarding a black pickup truck driving erratically on Route 161. Police stopped the truck in the parking lot of the Shell gas station at Flanders Four Corners.

Police said there were several wax folds consistent with heroin/fentanyl packaging in the passenger compartment as well as drug paraphernalia.

Police found 120 bags of suspected heroin in the vehicle. Mitchell was taken into custody without incident and transported to Waterford police, where he was charged.
