Niantic Man Charged In RI Break-In, Gun Thefts

Allan Jones, 47, had been locked up in CT for illegal firearms possession. RI police say he stole those guns during a 2018 house break-in.

WESTERLY, RI — Niantic man Allan S. Jones, 47, is being extradited to Rhode Island Friday to be arraigned on a June 2018 case where police say he broke into a house and stole guns and electronics, Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey told Patch.

Jones, of 44 Central Avenue, was arrested a month after that break-in, but in Connecticut by state police from Troop E. He was charged with two felony counts of illegal gun possession — guns stolen in Westerly, police said. Jones was jailed and, a year later in 2019, was found guilty and sentenced to five years in prison on each count to be served concurrently with four years of prison suspended. He waived extradition so he's being released into Westerly Police custody Friday on their charges of entering a dwelling with felonious intent, conspiracy and two counts of larceny of a firearm.

Lacey said that on June 18 of 2018, a woman was going to the Potter Hill Road, Westerly home of her former boyfriend to get her belongs. Lacey said she had people with her, one of whom was Jones. Lacey said "they decided to break-in to the house and steal guns, a PlayStation and Nintendo, and other items." He said the homeowner's security cameras recorded the break-in and theft.
