Niantic Restaurant/Brewery Shuts Down Following Coronavirus Case

NIANTIC, CT — Niantic Public House and Brewery temporarily closed after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus. The establishment, located at 243 Main St., made decision the shut down in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

Niantic Public House and Brewery posted the following on Facebook: "ATTENTION! PLEASE READ! We have been notified by an employee of Niantic Public House that they spiked a fever and have tested positive for COVID.

"This employee’s last shift was Saturday July 11th, and they were running the take out window as well as sanitizing tables and chairs throughout the shift. No other employees have shown any symptoms. Our employees always wear a mask and gloves when working, but for the safety of our employees and community, we will be closed this weekend to sanitize and allow for a 2 week period as recommended by the CDC.

"Please keep our employee in your thoughts. If you have any questions please email as us jenny@nianticpublichouse.com...Stay safe, be vigilant, and wear your masks!"

The restaurant and brewery reopened recently after almost four months of being closed, serving beer in their tap room and outdoor patio, according to WFSB 3 TV.

In a followup announcement, the eatery said "We just wanted to thank everyone for the outpouring of support. With such a small team, our employees are like family, the well wishes and kind words were much needed and much appreciated. We’ll continue to keep everyone updated. This community is amazing, we’ll get through this together; wear your masks. We got this."

On social media, patrons expressed gratitude for the restaurant being upfront about the situation.

"Thank you for your exceptionally responsible behavior. You have earned a lifelong customer. Best wishes for the employee and the whole crew!"

Said another person, "I commend you for letting the public know. And appreciate it greatly! Positive energy sent your way for the speedy recovery of your employee. Thank you."
