Obituary: Wilbur Clark Spencer, 71

He touched many lives in Southeastern Connecticut through his career in finance and banking institutions, retiring in 2014.

OLD LYME, CT - Wilbur Clark Spencer, 71, a lifelong resident of Old Lyme passed away peacefully early Thursday, February 27, 2020 at home with his wife Christine at his side, providing hospice end of life care. Wilbur was diagnosed with glioblastoma in December 2019.

Wilbur was born February 14, 1949 in New London Connecticut to William and Helen (Huntley) Spencer, both parents preceded him in death. He married the former Christine Smith 48 years ago, she survives him.

Wilbur was a graduate of Cheshire Academy class of 1967 where he developed an interest in photography which he continued throughout his lifetime. He graduated from Nicholas College in Dudley, MA in 1971 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He touched many lives in Southeastern Connecticut through his career in finance and banking institutions, retiring in 2014.
He was an active member of the Ledyard Sportsmen Club, excelling in the Eastern Connecticut Winter Skeet League achieving a high over all average twice, the last in 2005. He was a past member of the Niantic Sportsmen Club. He was a member of the Old Lyme Volunteer Ambulance Association for over 13 years.

Wilbur and his wife enjoying walking along the Long Island Sound beaches in Old Lyme always on the look out for the return of the Piping Plover and other migratory birds. There were always rescue cats in the Spencer household and Wilbur took great pleasure in making their lives a priority. The light of his life were the twins Alessandra and Olivia Vergara.
