Singer Songwriter Hayley Reardon at Nightingale’s in Old Lyme
April 20 Show at Nightingale's Cafe with Hayley Reardon & Jake Manzi

Hayley Reardon from Nashville by way of Boston makes a stop in Old Lyme at Nightingale’s Acoustic Cafe on Friday April 20. Reardon’s current tour comes on the heels of her first tour of the U.K. Rising luminary, Jake Manzi joins Hayley for a handful of dates during the Spring leg of her tour. The pair have risen in stature to the point that their itinerary includes Northampton’s Iron Horse Music Hall and New York’s Rockwood Music Hall. Connecticut Shoreline music aficionados should lunge at this opportunity to experience Reardon and Manzi in the intimate setting afforded us at Nightingale’s Cafe.
Ms. Reardon toured nationally since her early teens at which point her songwriting demonstrated empathy and maturity beyond her years. In fact, many tours embarked upon by Hayley stopped at schools and civic organizations where a message of anti-bullying was shared from peer to peer through music and dialogue. Although still a young adult, Reardon employs smart lyrics coupled with a fresh musical approach which places her squarely in the top echelon of artists in the singer songwriter idiom.
If I’ve learned anything during my twenty-five years in the music industry, it is that seasoned record producers recognize the qualities an artist must demonstrate to ascend to a level attained by the most enduring performers. Lorne Entress, drummer and producer extraordinaire, has worked with Ronnie Earl, Lori McKenna, Mark Erelli and soul legend Mighty Sam McClain. The fact that Entress chose to produce Hayley’s last two projects speaks volumes about the benchmarks they set in the studio together. Recommended collaborations between Reardon and Entress include “Good” and “Where the Artists Go”. These recordings deliver flawless vocals, top notch musicianship and tasteful finishes from the production side of the equation.

In 2013 Hayley performed on a concert to benefit the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. Dozens of top musicians clamored to contribute their talents to the cause. B.B. King’s former piano player and legendary producer, Ron Levy, also took the stage on this occasion. During Hayley’s set Levy leaned over to me and remarked that Reardon possessed greater raw talent and vocal timbre than any young artist he had witnessed in many years. Levy’s resume includes 9 Grammy nominations, Producer of the Year creds and many years at the helm of Rounder Records A&R department. Lev’s projects notably include some fantastic Bonnie Raitt recordings. Raitt and Reardon both graced the stage of Harvard Square’s Club 47, now known as Passim but you can only see Hayley in the intimate confines of Nightingale’s Acoustic Café in Old Lyme, CT. Take the advice of the producers and treat yourself to an evening with Hayley and Jake, the progeny of the Folk Blues Revival.
