Troy Gonyea Brings Tour to The Phoenix in Pawcatuck, CT June 21

Gonyea Promoting, "Click, Click, Spark" Release on Current Tour

Pawcatuck, CT - Troy Gonyea, a real deal guitar-slinger is headed to The Phoenix which has recently re-opened under new ownership. The club adheres to its vow to book top musical talent on Friday June 21, 2019. I would be remiss to call Troy Gonyea a bluesman because his palette is far more varied. Mr. Gonyea demonstrates on his recording, “Click, Click, Spark” (Lotus Eater Records) that he has the energy of a rockabilly player, skill of a seasoned blues player and ability to incorporate various American musical idioms into his repertoire.

Troy and his bandmates possess very impressive resumes. Troy used Marty Richards on drums (J. Geils Band), Marty Ballou on bass (Peter Wolf Band) and Brooks Milgate on keys when recording his latest release. Gonyea spent a substantial amount of time with the Fabulous Thunderbirds and the Kim Wilson Blues Band. Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Booker T. also sought out Troy as a rough and ready sideman. Most recently Sugar Ray Norcia called upon Troy to round out the group of stalwarts in The Bluetones. Anthony Geraci’s Boston Blues All-Stars also keeps Mr. Gonyea busy.

Luckily Troy has a few dates where he can present his fine band this summer. Friday’s show at The Phoenix will undoubtedly include some deep blues yet Troy transcends the genre each time he steps on stage. Few can so easily slip into a jam band like vibe and the guitar lulls the listener into a trance as if Junior Kimbrough were at the helm. https://vimeo.com/66613416 Troy’s playing is a marriage of the tradition and modern at a crossroad that few ever reach. Troy is just old enough to have shared the stage with several Muddy Waters contemporaries yet young enough to keep the material interesting and current.
