Property Taxes Rise In CT, Still Among Highest In Country: Report

Connecticut residents pay some of the highest property taxes in the country, according to a new analysis from ATTOM Data. The 2017 property tax analysis found that Connecticut had the seventh highest property tax rate 1.99 percent— in the country.
The analysis found that the average tax amount in Connecticut increased two percent in 2017 when compared to 2016. The average annual property tax in Connecticut for 2017 was $7,105 in 2017 and in 2016 that figure was $6,963.
Fairfield County by far has the highest average property tax amount out of all Connecticut counties at $10,612. All other counties are under $6,500. The new tax bill signed into law by President Trump caps the state and local tax deduction, limiting the deduction residents can claim on their 2018 tax returns to $10,000.

The average market value of a house in Connecticut is around $348,000, which is skewed due to some expensive property in Fairfield County. The average Fairfield County home is around $637,000 while every other county is below $306,000.
Nationwide, ATTOM found that property taxes levied on single family homes went up 6 percent. Average property taxes for a single family home in 2017 went up 3 percent to $3,399 from the average property tax of $3,296 in 2016.
