Trumbull Among Top 10 CT Communities to Own a Home

New report ranks Trumbull as one of the best places for homeownership.

Trumbull recently received the distinction of being ranked the seventh best town in Connecticut for homeownership by consumer advocacy website NerdWallet.

The site analyzed 60 Connecticut communities based on affordability (median selected monthly homeowner costs, median monthly household income and costs as percent of income) and population growth (homeownership rate and 2010-12 population growth), as well as median home values. The result is an overall score, ranging from 79 (Glastonbury Center) to 30.4 (Greenwich).

Trumbull garnered a score of 73.8 — putting it in seventh place — and ranked second among the top 10 in homeownership rate with 89.5 percent (behind Southwood Acres in Enfield at 90.2 percent).

In their full report, NerdWallet has this to say of Trumbull:

Trumbull says of itself that it “combines small-town New England character and charm with extensive retail, commercial, and light manufacturing activity.” Located about 5 miles from Bridgeport, Connecticut’s largest city, Trumbull combines accessibility to the city with safety and high performing schools. In addition to a central high school (which ranks a 9 out of 10 on Greatschools.org), the town also provides education opportunities such as the Regional Agriscience and Biotechnology Program and the Trumbull Business Education Initiative. Through these programs students can explore organic chemistry and plant science in state-of-the-art labs, or learn necessary work skills through partnerships with a number of local businesses.

“This article is just the latest piece of evidence that Trumbull is viewed very favorably by independent sources with no formal ties to the Town,” First Selectman Timothy Herbst said. “As I’ve said before, this continual positive feedback is a clear indication that we are doing the right things to enhance our quality of life and prepare for an even better future.”
