Historic Home Once Owned By The Mayor On The Market In Vernon

An 1800s home in Vernon owned by the mayor of Rockville has been put n the market.

VERNON, CT — A stately 1800s home once owned by the mayor of Rockville has gone on the market in Vernon.

The home was built around 1850 in the Italianate style and a Queen Anne style veranda was added in 1898, according to Vernon Historical Society archives.

The first owner was Clark Holt and it is Holt's name that is featured on the historic marker.

In 1876, S. Tracey Noble purchased the home. According to historical society records, Noble worked his way up the textile industry ranks ranks to become the bookkeeper for the Hockanum Mills.

Noble was a longtime member of the local school board and served as mayor of Rockville from 1913 to 1915, according to the archives.

Noble died on April 24, 1919.
