Historic Vernon Home For Sale ... But Who's On The Nameplate?

Just who was the mysterious man on a Vernon historic home's nameplate?

VERNON, CT — A classic Victorian home that stands out even in an area known for classic Victorians went on the market this week. The man on the historic nameplate, though, presented a bit of a mystery.

The Vernon Historical Socety's Jean Luddy called the dwelling at 64 Orchard St. "a charming, well-maintained house" and she pointed in particular to the pressed tin ceilings. The name on the historic marker is George Scott, circa 1880.

We know it's not the George Scott who played for the Red Sox. He was in New England a century later. So who was he?

According the Historic District Survey, 64 Orchard was owned from 1883 to 1899 by George A. Scott, who was probably the original owner. In 1887, Scott was employed by the Rock Manufacturing Company.

In 1900 the home was owned by Fred Beaumont, an English immigrant who was a machinist.
