Cancer Claims Life Of Decorated West Hartford Police Officer
Sgt. Christopher Tyler, a popular West Hartford cop among peers and citizens, has died, the department announced Tuesday.

WEST HARTFORD — Sgt. Christopher Tyler, a decorated and popular West Hartford Police officer among colleagues and townsfolk, has lost his battle with brain cancer, the department announced Tuesday.
Tyler, who was in his early 30s, died Monday, according to the announcement.
Tyler was selected by his peers as the Exchange Club Police Officer of the Year in 2017.

"Sergeant Tyler was a valued member of our family since August of 2010 and will be deeply missed," WHPD officials said in the announcement.

After being hired in 2010, Tyler served as a police officer and was promoted to sergeant in December 2017. During his tenure he worked in various roles, including:

- The Community Interaction Team
- The WHPD Emergency Services Unit
- Field training officer
- Investigative services sergeant
- Administrative services sergeant
In all Tyler was the recipient of 14 department, merit and unit citations.
WHPD officials said they have received, over the years, "countless" letters from citizens thanking Tyler for various good deeds.
