Ceiling Collapses At Popular West Hartford Ice Cream Shop

A unique and popular West Hartford ice cream shop was closed Tuesday after a ceiling mishap a day earlier.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A popular West Hartford ice cream shop was closed Tuesday after part of its ceiling fell in over the long 4th Of July weekend, authorities said.

The initial call came into the police and fire departments at about 8 p.m. Monday. Milkcraft is located at 967 Farmington Ave.

Authorities said the half-dozen staffers and about 20 customers were quickly accounted for, and two minor injuries were reported.

West Hartford Police and Fire Department are investigating the accident and the building has been declared unsafe and is closed, authorities said. Building department officials were back at the scene Tuesday.

Milkcraft is known for making "small batches" of ice cream each day. It freezes every scoop with food-grade liquid nitrogen to create smaller ice crystals for a smoother product. It also offers catering out of its Milktruck fleet.
