Circle of Care Now In West Hartford

Helping Children With Cancer and their families

Circle of Care Adds Support Services Directors On The Heels of A Banner Year

Wilton, CT; March 1, 2021 – 2020 was a challenging year by all standards, but especially for those fighting cancer. Thankfully, the children, adolescents and young adults in Connecticut threatened by the collision of cancer and Covid, can rely on Circle of Care. Due to increased support in 2020 Circle of Care recently hired additional staff to build and expand its base of programs and services. New hires include Development Director, Jill Tucker, and Deputy Director, Brooks Tomb. Ms. Tucker brings broad experience in the for profit and non-profit sectors. She began her career in financial services but seeking more fulfillment at work and followed her dream of working for health care related non-profits. Jill was most recently a Development Director at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation where she excelled at increasing revenues through developing corporate partnerships and managing fundraising events. “I am excited and proud that my work at Circle of Care will assist our mission to support families going through a pediatric cancer diagnosis., says Ms. Tucker. She adds, “The Covid 19 global pandemic has caused the community to need our support now more than ever.”

Mr. Tomb also changed careers to follow his passion for helping children with cancer. He began his career in the film business and worked as a Department Head on many well-known movies and TV shows, such as “Lost World” and “Cold Case”. But, for the past 14 years he has served as the Northeast Regional Director of the Sunshine Kids Foundation based in Hartford. As Mr. Tomb says, “The creativity and managerial experience I gained from my film work, as well as my experience at Sunshine Kids will be put to great use at Circle of Care. I am looking forward to be part of expanding our reach and depth of programs and services in the Hartford area of CT and the surrounding communities.”

Circle of Care, the CT-based non-profit that assists and provides comfort to children and the families of children with cancer, witnessed a critical increase in demand for services in 2020. As a result their programs reached more families last year than in any other single year since its founding over 17 years ago. In 2020, CoC was fortunate to be the beneficiary of a one-time grant from the 4-CT Charity fund, an independent non-profit entity helping those who are the most in need in Connecticut during Covid-19. This contributed to Circle of Care being able to provide nearly $300,000 in assistance to 110 families throughout the state. The funds were used for housing, food, shelter, transportation and, unfortunately, even the funeral expenses for those children who did not survive their cancer treatment. Caring for a child with cancer is extremely stressful and expensive. Circle of Care helps to alleviate the additional stress of having to worry about paying bills day-to-day, so the family can focus completely on meeting their child’s emotional and physical needs. This contributes to a improved continuum of care which they know can impact the child’s recovery.

Circle of Care’s success to date shows the importance of its work for CT and its residents. While so many non-profits struggled to stay afloat last year, Circle of Care ‘s success indicates its value and benefit for all Connecticut residents facing pediatric cancer.
