Road Reopens After Downed Trees, Wires In West Hartford
Police are advising motorists to avoid the area.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — In an update around 8 p.m., police announced that Albany Avenue has been reopened for both eastbound and westbound traffic.
" We're asking that people traveling in the area continue to use caution, as there are still first responders and emergency crews working in the area," Lt. Daniel V. Moffo said in an email. " I do not have a time frame for when the area will be completely clear and back to normal."
(Original post) WEST HARTFORD, CT — Several downed trees and power lines have led to road closures in West Hartford. Police say the passing thunderstorm created hazardous conditions along Albany Avenue near Bishops Corner.

“Trees, power lines, and communication wires are all blocking access to Albany Avenue and portions of Flagg Road,” according to police. “First responders are on scene, along with Eversource employees who are working to quickly address the hazards. Please seek alternate routes, as Albany Avenue is currently shut down between Mountain Road and North Main Street.”
Police said that trees, power lines and communication wires were damaged during the incident.

Fire officials say the storm dropped a quarter inch of rain on the area. The fire department also offers the following tips:
- Downed power lines can be deadly. Always assume that they are live in avoid going near it or anything in contact with it.
- Downed power lines can energize the ground up to 35 feet away.
- Never drive over downed power lines.
- If someone comes in contact with one or something else that has become electrified, call 911 immediately
