Hartford County's 1st Eco-Friendly, Modern Ride Service Debuts

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Hartford County's first Eco-Friendly Modern Ride Service made it maiden voyages in West Hartford Thursday.

The company is called Electra and it has the only full zero-emission vehicle fleet in Hartford County. It is based in West Hartford.

"We can drive you wherever you need to go, at no cost to the environment," company officials said.

West Hartford Mayor Shari Cantor had the inaugural ride Thursday and the service came in handy. Cantor used the service to to attend ribbon-cutting ceremonies at Westfield Bank, Just Cause Gifts and Arethusa, along with a tree planting at Elmwood Community Center and an Earth Day event at the newly opened Gastro Park.

"This is important for our future," Cantor said. "Corporations, campuses and private-citizens alike are looking for ways to cut emissions across the board. Now, right here in West Hartford, riders can make the zero-emission choice to ride with Electra -the only company with all electric vehicles."

A Thursday debut was appropriate for another reason.

"I am so pleased to have the opportunity to celebrate Earth Day with this dynamic, environmentally-conscious company launched by two of Connecticut’s own," Cantor said.

Electra was founded by like-minded environmentalists, Kyle Bryan and Amanda Dyas. For every ride given in 2021, the Electra team will plant a tree to "double down on our brand promise," they said.

Said Bryan, "We promise to get you where you need to go in the cleanest and greenest vehicles available. Our fares are competitive with Uber and Lyft and our COVID response is above and beyond, taking the environment into account with product and PPE choices."

Dyas, added, “Our mission is to decrease your carbon footprint, one mile at a time by offering a green fleet for ride services with your health and safety at the forefront.”

Electra is run through a Mobile Application System and customers can see more about it here. and on the App Store on iOS platforms. The app will be coming to Android users in 2022.
