Connecticut Weather: Heavy Rain, Flooding Concerns In Forecast

The National Weather Service has already issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Connecticut. Here's the latest details.

Connecticut finally got out of the deep freeze on Tuesday and now we're headed for a bunch of new weather concerns later this week. And beginning next week the temps will plunge once again and we'll be well below freezing once again.

For the rest of this week, Connecticut will see a lot of rain, which is forecast for late Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning, which will lead to flooding concerns and likely produce a dense fog as snow and ice melts. The National Weather Service has already issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for all of Connecticut.

For Southern Connecticut, the weather service says, "The combination of 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches of rain, a melting snowpack, and mild temperatures may result in ice jam flooding along a few streams and rivers Friday into Saturday."

For Hartford and Tolland counties, the weather service say, "There is a moderate risk for heavy rainfall which could lead to areas of urban and poor drainage flooding Friday and Saturday. Snow melt could exacerbate the flood risk."

For Litchfield County, the weather service says, "A period of steady rainfall and milder temperatures is expected Thursday night into Friday, leading to snowmelt and movement of river ice. Flooding due to ice jams, as well as localized urban and small stream flooding, may be possible."

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said, "for Wednesday - Watch the icy patches out there this morning. Sunshine & 30s today. 40s tomorrow! Worried about lots of rain & snowmelt Friday-Saturday AM & associated basement flooding."

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said, "We're watching the potential for flooding Friday and Saturday across the state." He added that up to three inches of rain could fall in certain locations.

Fox 61 Meteorologist said, "Chilly start, but seasonal highs today, with lots of sun, Big warm up the next few days. That means thawing the snowpack, and with a lot of rain by Friday, the potential for flooding."
