“Here at InterCommunity Health Care, we care for every child and think it’s only fitting to call this new campaign exactly that,” said Kim Beauregard, CEO and President of InterCommunity, Inc., a nonprofit community based health organization which offers various services at 17 sites in the greater Hartford region. “The hash tag #InterCommunityCaring4EveryChild will make it easier to learn about us on social media while highlighting the many services we offer to help children and families.”

Some of those innovative services include offering health care for kids at school. InterCommunity Health Care operates seven health centers in East Hartford schools. These centers provide services beyond the scope of the school nurse.

“We understand it’s hard for parents to leave work when they get the call from school that their child is sick,” Beauregard said. “Typically, it means leaving work which can also mean less pay. We can help! We are not there to replace your child’s pediatrician but rather to supplement your child’s health care and well-being. Your child can be seen by one of our medical care providers without ever leaving the school building. All parents have to do is sign up for the service ahead of time.”

The school based health centers provide services beyond the scope of the school nurse including:

  • Diagnoses and treatment of minor injuries and illnesses (such as colds, ear infections, sore throats, etc.)
  • Mental health and substance abuse risk screenings
  • Routine well-child check-ups
  • Physical examinations, including sports physicals
  • Immunizations
  • Prescriptions and dispensing of medication
  • Laboratory testing, including on-site point of care testing
  • Diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases
  • Management of chronic conditions, such as asthma
  • Nutrition counseling and weight management
  • Crisis intervention and assessments
  • Individual, family and group counseling
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Referral & follow-up for specialty and dental

This year, InterCommunity Health Care will also dedicate some of its fundraising efforts for its children’s services and which includes launching a food pantry at an East Hartford school.

“We hope to have much more news regarding these new and exciting ventures in the very near future,” said Beauregard. “We are finishing up the final details and will be releasing more information soon. We are very excited about how much our work is growing and is having a positive impact on children and their families. For us, our mission is simple; we believe that every child deserves access to quality health care and mental health services regardless of their parents’ income or ability to pay.”

InterCommunity’s school based health centers are located at East Hartford High, Synergy Alternative High, East Hartford Middle, Mayberry Elementary, Silver Lane Elementary, Langford Elementary, and the Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC) at Hockanum School.

InterCommunity Health Care also operates a counseling service for children, teens and their families, located 287 Main Street, East Hartford. We accept most insurances including both state and private insurance. The Children’s counseling center provides an extensive array of services, including:

  • Diagnostic evaluations
  • Individual, group, and family therapy
  • Medication management services
