Local Band to Perform Live at RACE in the Park
Registration Underway for May 11 Event Supporting Leading Edge Breast Cancer Research in CT
A well-known Connecticut-based vocal and guitar band, Jeff Mainville’s Acoustic Trio, featuring Jeff Mainville and Billy Steele, will be performing live at the 2019 “RACE IN THE PARK.” The Connecticut Breast Health Initiative (CT BHI) hosts this annual event on Mother’s Day weekend in New Britain to raise money to advance education programs and breast cancer research in Connecticut.
Jeff Mainville’s Acoustic Trio has been performing together for 30 years, and with piano player extraordinaire Erik Haeger since 2001. With over 1,000 shows in the past 18 years, they cover everything from The Beatles to Blake Shelton. A typical performance includes modern and classic country, rock, blues and radio-friendly hits that span six decades of popular music.
All of the money raised for the RACE IN THE PARK stays in Connecticut. During the past 15 years, the annual Mother’s Day weekend event has provided grants to breast cancer researchers and educators totaling more than $3.75 million.

This year’s even will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Walnut Hill Park in New Britain. To register or pledge for this event, which includes a 5K run and 1 Mile Walk, 4 K Walk, and Kids’ Challenge, visit www.ctraceinthepark.org.
“Every person who participates, every dollar donated, brings us closer to the next breakthrough and ultimately a cure” said Joyce Bray, president of the CT BHI Board of Directors. “We appreciate the Jeff Mainville Trio sharing their talents to provide great music for runners, walkers and their families to enjoy.”

The RACE IN THE PARK brings statewide benefits. The money raised has funded grants provided to breast cancer research and education initiatives across the state, including in Bridgeport, Danbury, Farmington, Hartford, Middletown, New Britain, New Haven and Stamford. In recent years, researchers at MidState Medical Center, University of Connecticut Health Center, Yale University, Middlesex Hospital, Hospital of Central Connecticut and Stamford Health have been among the grant recipients.
Along with RACE registration, there are many ways to donate and be engaged throughout the event. New this year will be a Connecticut Artisan Market featuring local artists and vendors – just in time for Mother’s Day gift-giving. Returning activities for families include “Touch a Truck” for children, a Silent Auction and Raffle in the Park, as well as a variety of food trucks throughout the day.
“RACE Day is not only about raising money for breast cancer research, it also supports the community of survivors and honors loved ones,” explained Bray. “The entire community really comes together to support this wonderful family day.”
