Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Thursday: CT Weather
The National Weather Service has instituted a Winter Weather Advisory and Hazardous Weather Outlook for CT.
CONNECTICUT — On Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the entire state of Connecticut except for the immediate coast.
For interior sections of southern Connecticut, the weather service says, "Mixed precipitation expected. Ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch and up to one inch of sleet. From 11 PM this evening to 10 AM EST Thursday. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
For Hartford, Tolland and Windham, the weather advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. Thursday. "Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

For Litchfield County, the weather advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday. "Mixed precipitation expected, including snow, sleet and freezing rain. Total snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of up to two tenths of an inch. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning commute. Mixed precipitation will change to light rain or drizzle Thursday afternoon."
And for the immediate coast, a hazardous weather outlook is in effect, with the weather service saying, "Travel may be impacted late Wednesday night into Thursday morning due to a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain."

CONNECTICUT — If you're traveling along the Interstate 95 corridor prior to 7 a.m. Thursday you may have to contend with a mixture of rain and sleet. After 7 a.m. Thursday, the mixed precipitation is expected to turn to plain rain for the remainder of Thursday and Friday along the immediate coast.
Inland sections of southern Connecticut and Hartford, Tolland, Windham, and Litchfield county may see mixed precipitation up until noon Thursday before the change to plain rain, according to the newest updates from the National Weather Service.
As this forecast has evolved, one noticeable change over the past 24 hours is that snow is no longer a major factor in this storm. This storm is all about ice, especially away from the coast. No snow is expected to accumulate Thursday.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for southern Connecticut saying, "Travel may be impacted late Wednesday night into Thursday morning due to a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain."
For northern Connecticut, the weather service says, "High confidence in a wintry mix that will impact the Thursday morning commute across most of southern New England. While snow, sleet and freezing rain amounts will not be a significant, untreated roads will be slippery. Winter Weather Advisories will be needed ... A stronger storm will bring the potential for heavy rain and street flooding Thursday night..."
On Wednesday, we can expect temps into the mid 40s by afternoon but temps will fall quickly after sunset, the weather service states.
Southern Connecticut Forecast Details For Thursday
The weather service says "As this low nears the forecast area a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain will be possible in the early morning hours."
"A trace to 0.10 inches of freezing rain could be possible. The good news is that the transition to all rain is relatively quick by the late morning and early afternoon...," the weather service says for southern Connecticut.
Then moderate to heavy rain is forecast for southern Connecticut Thursday night and it could lead to isolated flooding concerns. Rainfall totals around 1.5 to 2.5 inches will be possible with isolated areas seeing higher amounts. The rain ends by noon Friday.
Northern Connecticut Forecast Details For Thursday:
In northern parts of Connecticut, mixed precipitation is forecast to begin after 2 a.m. Thursday.
"So the forecast will reflect a messy start to the (precipitation), with snow/sleet north of the Mass Pike and rain/sleet to the south. Could be some freezing rain in the transition zone in the south," the weather service says.
Freezing rain is forecast to be falling during the morning commute Thursday.
"The timing could be problematic for the Thursday morning commute," the weather service cautions.
"By mid morning, the threat of freezing rain should come to an end for the coastal plains as surface temperatures warm above freezing and winds shift to the east.... a few hundredths of an inch of ice is possible in the coastal plains with up to two tenths of an inch possible in the interior high elevations," the weather service says.
Heavy rain is forecast for Thursday night and Friday morning. Up to two inches of rain is possible. It is possible that the precipitation on Friday morning could end as some freezing rain and or snow too.
