Obituary: Barbara O. Backus, 75, of West Hartford

Barbara Olson Backus of West Hartford, CT passed away peacefully on May 4, 2019 at the age of 75. She was the daughter of the late Erik and Astrid (Carlson) Olson of West Hartford and was predeceased by her husband John Backus. Barbara is survived by her daughter Kristine Filippelli and her husband Frederic, her son Robert Backus, her brother Roger Olson, her grandsons Cameron and Mason Backus, and Michael and Steven Filippelli, her great grandsons Erikson and Beauregard Backus, and her cousins Carol Bengston and Linda Mackenzie and her husband Ward.

Barbara worked for the State of Connecticut, Service Merchandise, and Restoration Hardware. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was happiest when she could help other people. Barbara loved her annual vacation on Cape Cod where many fond family memories were made. She was extremely kind and thoughtful and was always telling everyone how important it was to laugh, that it really was the best medicine.

In celebration of Barbara’s life, friends and family will be received at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford on Monday, May 13th from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. A private graveside burial will take place immediately after the funeral service at Fairview Cemetery in West Hartford.
