Obituary: Katherine Oliver, 90, of West Hartford

She worked for many years before retiring from CT Mutual Life. She also worked in the purchasing department of the Town of West Hartford.

Katherine Oliver, 90, of West Hartford, died February 22, 2019 at St. Mary Home in West Hartford after a lengthy illness. Katherine was born May 22, 1928 to John B. and Mary (Morris) Farrell in Gloucester, MA. The youngest of six children, Katherine was a strong but thoughtful woman who was blessed with a sweet disposition. She moved to Hartford in 1952 as a young wife of the late John F. Oliver.

She worked for many years in the insurance business retiring from Connecticut Mutual Life. Still wanting to be active she worked in the purchasing department of the Town of West Hartford. In 1994 Katherine moved to Millbrook Court in Newington where she lived for 13 years. She then moved to Hamilton Heights in West Hartford, before moving to St. Mary Home in West Hartford.

Her family would like to extend a thank you to the East 3 staff at St. Mary Home for their kind care. A special thank you to Andrea her wonderful aide and friend. In addition to her husband John, she was predeceased by her brothers; Martin and John Farrell and sisters; Ann McCarthy (Edward), Mary Melanson (Bob), Madeline Harnish (Edward). She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Keenan (John), granddaughter, Rebecca Keenan and sister in law, Gail Farrell and many beloved nieces and nephews who will miss “Auntie Kate.”

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 27, beginning with visitation from 9-11 a.m. at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford, a prayer service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, 200 Whitman Ave. West Hartford. Donations in her memory may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd. Newington, CT 06111 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl. Memphis, TN 38105.
