Ruth Schultz, 92, born and raised in Philadelphia, lived in West Hartford since 1971. Her parents, Frank and Fannie Fisher, immigrated from Eastern Europe. Ruth shared many fond memories of growing up in Strawberry Mansion, a Jewish neighborhood in Philadelphia, memories of music, fun and politics with her friends. She dedicated her life to the improvement of the lives of working-class people.

Ruth quit high school to help support her family. She worked as a riveter in the defense industry on the West Coast during WWII. Later, she completed high school and obtained a bachelor's degree in history from Trinity College, while raising five children. Ruth worked at Huntington's bookstore for decades and co-authored three books on civil liberties in the United States.
