Parenting: The New Normal!

Parents, your lives are very different now! And it will never go back to what it was before kids. Don't fret it though, it's a great ride!

Parents, do you have your wet wipes with you? Have we all gone to the potty before we embark on this parenting adventure? That’s right. I’m a full grown adult who just used the word ‘potty.’ Boy, parenting sure has changed me. However, I would surmise that parenting has probably changed all of us parents, hasn’t it?

You see, whether we want it to or not, parenting is changing our reality and creating a whole new normal for us parents that are filled with new and strange sights, sounds and smells. Most of these new things in our lives we never even imagined before, let alone imagined ourselves getting used to them as we have. These strange parenting things are our new normal now, aren’t they?

Parenting is a roller coaster of laughs, headaches, and heartaches. Parenting forces us to get used to a life of constant motion, change, and adaptation. Believe it or not, after being a parent for a while, we parents no longer say, “What the heck?” when faced with craziness. Instead, we just say, “Oh, well. Why not?” And then we just roll with the punches as if it was all normal, don’t we? And after a few years of parenting, it is all normal, isn’t it? The abnormal becomes normal in our lives.

Yup! This is the new normal. We now fight with new diaper bags instead of fiddling with new technologies and can’t remember sleeping past 5:15 A.M., right? But, you want to know what is also normal for us parents now? Our ability to adapt and be flexible beyond anything that we could have imagined before we were parents and ability to love our family more than we love ourselves, and that is a good thing!

Now, as my Granddaddy always said, “Go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us. The new normal of parenting is a good thing. Enjoy it while you can because it goes fast. And once again parents, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do…
