Police: 2 Men Arrested After Fleeing From Cop in Stolen Car

Two men were arrested early Wednesday morning after they fled from a cop and crashed a stolen car into a fire hydrant, telephone pole and traffic control signal, West Hartford Police said.

Officer Miele attempted to pull over the car, a white 1998 Acura Integra that had been reported stolen out of Hartford, at about 3:38 a.m. on May 14. The vehicle reportedly appeared suspicious as it drove around South Highland Street.

"Upon activating his lights, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed, continuing south over the Prospect Avenue bridge," the police report states. 

Miele did not engage in pursuit, police said, due to the high rate of speed and the reckless nature that the suspect's vehicle was being operated in.

Once the vehicle was out of sight, Miele proceeded over the bridge and observed the Acura crashed at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Caya Avenue. Police said the two suspects attempted to flee, but were apprehended.

The suspects and the charges follow:

Joaquin Cedeno, 24, of Hartford, was arrested on charges of third-degree larceny conspiracy to commit third-degree, possession of burglary tools, tampering with a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer, reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, operating with a suspended driver's license, evading a motor vehicle accident, and fail to obey a traffic control signal.

Joseph Murphy, 30, of Hartford, was arrested on charges third-degree larceny conspiracy to commit third-degree, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of interfering with an officer.
