Popular Restaurant Expands Menu, Updates Bar In West Hartford

A popular West Hartford restaurant has introduced an expanded menu, an updated bar… and a new baby.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A popular West Hartford restaurant has introduced an expanded menu, an updated bar… and a new baby. No one ever said that parenting — or running a restaurant — is easy but Luna Pizza owner Alex MacDonald is taking it all in stride in 2019 at the popular West Hartford Center location.

Luna Pizza, located at 999 Farmington Ave., has been family owned and operated since 1989, and moved to West Hartford in 1997. The recipes are primarily based on MacDonald’s Sicilian grandmother's traditions. The commitment to “small batch, high quality cooking has made Luna a perennial favorite over the years, and the remodel and menu expansion is meant to enhance, not change, that dining experience,” according to a press release.

“For us, owning a family restaurant business is about relationships—our relationships with our employees, our vendors, and especially with the West Hartford community,” MacDonald said. “We’ve been here in the center for over 20 years, and now we’re raising our young family here too. With our renovation and menu expansion, we want Luna Pizza to be a place our friends and neighbors can continue to bring their families for years to come.”

New items include: pastas, as well as burrata, calamari, and arancini. The interior of the restaurant has been brightened up with a marble bar top (for the adults) and a chalkboard wall (for the kids). The restaurant has also launched Happy Hour Monday to Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 12 noon to 3 p.m. with half-priced appetizers and discounts on beer and wine.

For anyone wondering, the new baby's name is Jack, and he visits dad quite often at work, along with his big sisters Maddie and Liv. Truly a family business, Alex’s wife Stephanie helps run the restaurant operations while also staying home and raising their kids.
