Small Earthquake Hits CT: Did You Feel It?
A 1.9 magnitude earthquake hit West Hartford Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey and media reports.

CONNECTICUT — Some residents in Connecticut felt an early morning jolt Friday that turned out to be a minor earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
A 1.9 magnitude earthquake was reported in the West Hartford area around 1 a.m., according to media reports.
Fox 61 meteorologist Dan Amarante said the earthquake was reported between UConn Health and Westfarms Mall. He said police received a few calls from people who were startled.

NBC Connecticut news anchor Heidi Voight shared on social media that some folks at the news station thought there was a nearby tractor-trailer crash that caused a bang and a brief shake.
NBC Connecticut's Bob Maxon said some people were woken from their sleep.

Dawn Massey, a resident of the Wood Pond area, told Patch, "Our whole house shook and there was a loud rumbling. It was the scariest thing ever. I thought a plane had crashed. The whole neighborhood was texting each other."
WTNH News 8 reported there were no injuries or damage reported.
Since 1678, 115 earthquakes have been felt in Connecticut, according to The Northeast States Emergency Consortium. In 1791, an earthquake in the Moodus area caused cracked chimneys. Other notable earthquakes in the state included one in 1845 in the Bridgeport/Norwalk area and an 1840 earthquake in the Hartford area that was so loud it caused people to run from churches as they assumed the structures would collapse, according to the consortium.
