University of Saint Joseph’s Karen Myrick Honored
University of Saint Joseph's Karen Myrick Inducted into American Academy of Nursing 2020 Class of Fellows

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (October 29, 2020) – Karen M. Myrick, DNP, Associate Professor of Nursing and Program lead for the Post Master’s Certificate in Musculoskeletal Health/Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at University of Saint Joseph, was recently named an Academy Fellow by the American Academy of Nursing. Myrick is the first faculty member from USJ to be honored as an Academy Fellow since the program began in 2008.
“I am beyond honored and very humbled to be amongst this group of individuals,” stated Myrick. “Since I was in second grade, I knew I wanted to be a nurse. Since I became a nurse, I have dreamt of being a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN), and have worked towards this goal.”
The American Academy of Nursing serves the public by advancing health policy and practice through the generation, synthesis, and dissemination of nursing knowledge. Academy Fellows are inducted into the organization for their extraordinary contributions to improve health locally and globally. With more than 2,700 Fellows, the Academy represents nursing’s most accomplished leaders in policy, research, administration, practice, and academia.

Dr. Myrick earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Nursing from UConn. Prior to joining USJ, she was a tenured associate professor of Nursing in the School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University in Hamden. In addition to over 18 years in Advanced Nursing Practice, she has a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Methods and fellowships in Leadership for Academic Nursing Programs and Interprofessional Education.
Myrick will officially be inducted during the Academy’s annual Transforming Health, Driving Policy Conference, taking place virtually October 29-31, 2020.
