The West Hartford Police Department will hold a ceremony recognizing the exceptional efforts of its police force and residents on Friday, May 16 at 8 a.m. in Legislative Chambers, Room 314, Town Hall.
The Police Color Guard will begin the ceremony with the presentation of the American flag followed by an opening address by Police Chief Tracey Gove. The ceremony is held each year during National Police Week.Â

Town Council member Harry Captain, chair of the public safety committee, will present the awards. Â Forty-five members of the police department and four citizens will be honored.
The Departmental Citation is presented to members of the department who through their own initiative and diligence apprehends, or through their actions causes to be apprehended, a felon who might otherwise go undetected. This award is presented to: Officer Anthony Miele, Officer Jeffrey Swank and Officer Christopher Tyler.

The Police Merit Award is presented to members of the police department upon commission of intelligent and valuable police service, who demonstrates a special faithfulness or devotion to duty. This award is presented to Officer James Mahoney, Officer David Michael, Sgt. Joseph Creaco, and Officer Christopher Tyler.
The Life Saving Award is granted to any sworn member or civilian member for a successful effort in saving a human life. This award is presented to Officer Amanda Martin.

West Hartford Citizens Award is given to an individual or organization whose operation has aided the West Hartford Police Department in the prevention of crime, the apprehension of criminals or in the performance of a valuable service to the department. The Citizen Award will be presented to Hardat Rambharose, Zatania Samuels, Diedra Dietter and Marcellus Johnson.
Service Awards are given to members of the department celebrating their 20th anniversary with the West Hartford Police Department. Lieutenant Theodore Stoneburner and Sergeant Kimberly Sullivan are recognized for their 20 years of service.
