West Hartford has no shortage of excellent swimmers now competing in college. Haley Sinatro (Conard High ‘12), a sophomore on the Penn State women’s swimming and diving team, placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.10) in a 152-102 season-opening victory over the University of West Virginia on Oct. 18. She is also successful out of the pool as well, having carried a 4.0 GPA in the fall 2012 semester. … Jake DiBella (Hall High ‘13) is a freshman on the Rider University men’s swimming and diving team. DiBella placed fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.81) and fifth in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:07.53) in a meet against Lehigh on Oct. 26. His performance helped propel the Broncs to a 170-120 victory. … Molly and Kate Gustafson (Conard High ‘10 and ‘13) are members of the Wittenberg University women’s swimming and diving team. Molly, a senior who specializes in the breaststroke, was a member of the 200 medley relay team that placed fifth (1:52.11) at the NCAC Relay meet on Oct. 20. She was also a member of the 200 breaststroke relay team that placed third (2:07.67). Kate, a freshman diver, teamed with Emily Allen to place third in the 1-meter diving competition. The duo placed fourth in the 3-meter diving competition. The sisters Gustafson helped Wittenberg placed third out of eight teams at the meet. … Dominique Spaulding (Conard High ‘12), a sophomore defensive lineman on the Mount Ida College football team, continues to lead the team in sacks with 4.5. Against Becker on Oct. 26, Spaulding had a sack and six tackles on the day to help lead the Mustangs to a 36-25 victory. … Claire O’Brien (Hall High ‘13), a freshman defender on the Stonehill College women’s soccer team, has started all 16 games for the 5-9-2 Skyhawks.
