West Hartford Business Buzz April 14: Openings, Closings and Other News

A round-up of West Hartford business news.

Welcome to this week's installment of West Hartford Business Buzz!

People in West Hartford love to be "in the know" about happenings in town, especially the openings — and closings — of local businesses. We hear things all the time, and some of them turn into big stories. But sometimes we don't have enough news to write an entire story, even though the information is definitely newsworthy. For a while we ran a "Visions for Vacancies" feature on Sundays, but it was getting to be difficult to find vacancies every week.

Every Sunday we'll highlight the business stories you may have missed during the past week, and give you the scoop on the other news you may not have heard about. And if you have tips about businesses opening or closing, please include them in the comments or send an email to ronni.newton@patch.com.

  • Kiehl’s Since 1851 opened its doors at Westfarms Mall on Friday. It's the company's first store in Connecticut, and offers skin and hair care products "derived from unique and natural ingredients." The store is located on the mall’s upper level in the Nordstrom wing.
  • Accessible Home, which opened in February at 1003 Farmington Ave., next to S.K. Lavery, held its official grand opening Friday evening. The business, owned by Lisa T. Gabrielle, has products to make homes more accessible to customers with physical limitations.
  • Work in Progress Fitness is holding a grand opening on Monday, with special deals for the first 100 guests. Work in Progress offers boot camp style classes, providing "personal training in a group setting" according to the company's website. The business is located at 485 New Park Ave. in West Hartford.
  • Thirty5 Bar & Grille is out of business. Based on a comment from a Patch reader (thanks for the tip posted on Boards!) the West Hartford restaurant/night spot closed for good on Thursday, just six months after completing a major renovation and makeover from Reuben's Deli, funded by a state EXP grant.
  • Are you over 50 and looking for part-time work? Consider registering with the Seniors Job Bank, which has reopened in West Hartford Town Hall's Room 216 after a 5-year hiatus.
