West Hartford Police Answer Local Chat Box Questions

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Several questions from the public were posted in the chat box during the West Hartford Police Department’s last Facebook Live Community Conversation session.

Q: Has the WHPD use of force policies been evaluated against other national organizations?

A: National use of force policy does not exist. However, WHPD’s policies are consistent with Connecticut's Compliance to Law Enforcement Standards and Practices; U.S. Supreme Court cases; and industry best practices.

Q: What is the timeline for remaking the composition of the Citizen’s Review Board?

A: It is our intention to present a recommendation during the September 2020 Public Safety Meeting.

Q: Is there legislation that outlines when officers can enforce their authority in other jurisdictions?

A: Generally, officers can affect arrests in other jurisdictions for crimes that occurred in the officer's jurisdiction.
