$1,200 Mermaid Stolen from Redding Business

Redding Police news, Feb. 19 through Feb. 25.

A $1,200 lawn ornament, of the mermaid variety, was stolen from a business on Ethan Allen Highway. The theft was reported to police on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 12:12 p.m.

Redding Police were among two departments which assisted the Weston Police Department during a domestic incident, which resulted in five charges being brought against a 55-year-old man. The incident occurred at 7:59 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Neal Grassie, 49, of Redding crashed into a rock wall and a utility pole after he swerved to avoid a deer and ran off Goodsell Hill Road, police said. The accident occurred on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 11:45 p.m.

Two Joel Barlow High School students got into a car accident Monday morning, Feb. 25, on their way to school. According to police, a car driven by a 16-year-old male rear-ended a car driven by a 17-year-old female. Both drivers were from Redding, and the male was issued a written warning for following too closely and having an obstructed windshield.

At 7:02 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, a car struck the side of a parked school bus that students were aboard in the Joel Barlow High School lot. The car drove away, and no injuries were reported.
