Delivery of Sneakers Tips Off Weston Woman to I.D. Theft

A Merry Lane woman called police to report identity theft after receiving a delivery of a pair of sneakers from Sports Authority she says she never ordered on Sept. 27.

Police said someone made the purchase by using the victim's credit card information online, adding she checked her account and saw several fraudulent charges.

Det. Carl Filsinger said the victim was advised to contact the Credit Bureau and to have a fraud alert placed on her credit report.

Filsinger said one of the most common ways identity thieves steal information is by hacking into email accounts, so he recommends routinely changing your password.
