FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield commuters and theater-goers have a new spot to stop for dinner or a drink, after Easton resident Peter Prizio opened Metro Kitchen and Bar about a week ago.

Located on the same block as the downtown train station and the Fairfield Theatre Co. in the space that previously housed Crave, Metro offers new American cuisine in a classic yet modern setting.

"It's always exciting to welcome a new business to the town of Fairfield," First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick said Friday, after a ribbon cutting for the restaurant.

The menu features shareable plates, sandwiches and entrees, according to Prizio. Highlights include the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich, the Korean barbecue ribs and the fried calamari. Metro serves lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, and also has a full bar with specialty cocktails, beer on tap and a cuvinee machine to ensure the perfect glass of wine.

The restaurant has plans to host live entertainment three nights a week that spotlights local musicians. It will also provide space for private events. The atmosphere, equally well-suited for a date night or family dinner with the kids, is the result of a complete renovation. The bright, clean decor features white brick walls and blue-gray paneling.

"It's new from top to bottom," Prizio said.

Crave, which was also owned by Prizio, closed over a month ago to allow Prizio to rebrand and remodel the space.

"I wish them much success," said Kupchick, who described Fairfield as "the restaurant capital of Fairfield County."

Prizio, who owns Boca Oyster Bar in Bridgeport, said he chose to open the new restaurant at its 52 Sandford St. location due to the space's proximity to the Fairfield Theatre Co. and the sense of community in Fairfield.
