Easton Residents To Vote On $46.2M Budget, Race Resolution

EASTON, CT — Residents will go to the polls Tuesday to vote on the proposed 2021-22 school and town budgets, as well as a Resolution on Racism and Public Health

General government operating expenses would decrease by 2.8 percent, offset by increases in Fire, Police, Public Health and Education, for a total increase of 3.61 percent over the current spending plan. The total proposed budget is $46,249,385. If approved, Easton's tax rate is projected to rise by 4.35 percent over fiscal 2020-21.
Proposed capital expenses would total $797,650 and include a $148,000 excavator for the Department of Public Works, two police cars for $87,350 and a fire department engine replacement for $120,000.

A projected increase in the number of Easton students attending Joel Barlow High School, along with a declining enrollment from Redding, is the main factor in a $797,667 increase in Easton's contribution to the Region 9 budget.
Also on the ballot is the Easton Resolution on Racism and Public Health, which would formally designate racism as a public health crisis.
