Fraud And Gunshots On Redding Police Blotter

Police were out in force Friday in the area of Old Mill Road and the Wilton town line investigating a report of gunshots.

REDDING, CT — A report of possible gunshots, and another Social Security fraud, were at the top of the Redding Police Department's blotter for the week.

Five unconfirmed gunshot sounds were reported on Friday in the area of Old Mill Road and the Wilton town line. Police checked the area but were unable to find any evidence.

Police were called to the site of a crash on Route 53 Thursday. Officers reported the motorist was traveling northbound and drifted onto the right shoulder of the road, striking a large rock embankment. The driver said that she "took her eye off the road for a few seconds," according to the police report. No injuries were reported.

Also on Thursday, police received a complaint from a North Main Street resident who said they had been defrauded by a phone scammer. The caller-complainant said they had given out personal information to someone claiming to represent the Social Security Administration. The resident had since cancelled all cards and accounts to prevent any further fraud, according to police, who are still investigating the case.
