Funeral Set for Westport Native, Fallen Marine
Roger W. Muchnick Jr., a 2008 Staples High School graduate, will be laid to rest later this week in western Massachusetts.

A Westport native who was killed last week by an explosion during a training excersice in Nevada will be laid to rest Friday.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church in Lenox, Massachusett's.

Muchnick was one of seven Marines killed in Nevada on March 18 after a 60 millimeter mortar exploded on the ground during a training exercise. Eight marines were injured in the incident, which occurred at a military depot located about 140 miles from Reno, Nevada.
Muchnick played both lacrosse and football while at Staples High School. He studied business at Eastern Connecticut University and also went on to play lacrosse at the college level after he graduated from Staples.
