Mark Twain Library Announces Book Fair

The Mark Twain Library will be accepting book donations until Friday, July 31.

From Mark Twain Library: The organizers of the Mark Twain Library’s Book Fair have some advice for anyone thinking about spring cleaning projects and getting organized at home or around the office – donate your books to the Library to be recycled and also support a great cause.

“When you donate books for the book fair, you’re really killing two birds with one stone,” said Jeanne Wendschuh, co-chair of the Book Fair. “First – you’re passing along the book for someone else to read and enjoy, and you’re also supporting the Library.”

The Library will be accepting donations until Friday, July 31. After that, the volunteers behind the scenes who sort, price and box the books will be devoting their energies to final preparations for the annual Book Fair.

The Mark Twain Library Book Fair, one of the oldest and largest in New England, is one of the Library’s major fundraisers and an annual town tradition. It is held over Labor Day weekend, from Friday, September 1 to Monday, September 4, at the Redding Community Center, 37 Lonetown Road, Redding.

With close to 65,000 titles amassed, this year’s fair will continue in its rich tradition as one of the biggest – and the best.

“It’s a great time to bring your used books to the Library,” said Midge Loery, co-chair of the Book Fair. “And we accept vinyl records, movies and CDs, too!”

The first day, on Friday, September 1, there will be a $20 “early buying” admission charge from 9 to 10 a.m. After 10:00 am, admission is free, with each individually priced book for sale as marked. On Saturday, September 2, the Book Fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and books will be sold as marked; Sunday, September 3, is half-price day. On Labor Day Monday, September 4, from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm, customers may purchase a box of books for $10.00, or pay half price for individual books. Boxes will be provided.

Parking is free and refreshments will be available. All proceeds benefit the Mark Twain Library.

The Mark Twain Library is owned by the Mark Twain Library Association. It was founded in 1908 by Samuel Clemens – Mark Twain himself – one of Redding’s most celebrated residents.
