Military-grade Mortar Found in Redding Yard
The weapon appeared to have been buried for quite some time, police said.
For Redding residents who happened to see a bomb squad in their neighborhood Saturday afternoon: There’s not much reason to be alarmed.
According to police, on Sept. 15 at 7:01 p.m., a High Ridge Road resident reported he had found what turned out to be an “unexploded military-grade mortar” in his yard when digging, police said. The mortar was 14 inches long.

“We did contact the State Police Bomb Squad, who responded and took the mortar,” Police Chief Douglas Fuchs said Tuesday. “They’ll dispose of it.”
Fuchs said the mortar—which was buried in the resident’s yard—appeared to be there for a long time.
