Oscar-Winning Director's Redding Farm Up For Sale

$19 million buys you some Hollywood history, as well as six full- and three half-baths...

REDDING, CT — The 47-acre "Maple Hill Farm," owned for about 17 years by Oscar-winning filmmaker Barry Levinson before he sold it in 2012, is once again on the market, for $19 million.

Levinson won the Academy Award for Best Director for "Rain Man" in 1988, but may be even better known for helming "Good Morning, Vietnam," "Diner" and "The Natural," and a host of other films.

According to "Cottages & Gardens," when the manor was rebuilt and renovated in 2014 by the current owners, they mandated architect Andrew Bartolotta maintain its "sense of history." Bartolotta and interior designer Amy Zolin won an Innovation in Design Award, among others, for their efforts that year.

The estate dates back to the 18th century (local lore whispers that Benedict Arnold once visited the farm), but includes such modern amenities as a state-of-the-art private recording studio. A performing arts venue, working barn, boat house, are just a few more of the "little extras."

The grounds include three antique homes, where guests can hunker down after a day of enjoying a 300-foot stream with multiple waterfalls cascading into a three-acre pond stocked with large mouth bass and brown trout.

A pig and chicken coop, tennis court, riding ring, ball field, horse stalls, paddocks and acres of riding and hiking trails complete this working farm, located at 187 Umpawaug Road.

It almost goes without saying there is a massive pool, as well as tennis courts. What you didn't expect is that local chainsaw artist added a whimsical component to the trails by creating wood carvings of A.A. Milne's beloved family of Winnie-the-Pooh throughout.

You likely didn't see the working sugar house coming, either. The current owners make their own maple syrup from trees on the property.
