Peter's Weston Market To Close After Nearly 50 Years
Declining sales and the "complexities" of the coronavirus pandemic have claimed another victim in Weston.
WESTON, CT — Peter’s Weston Market, a fixture in town for nearly half a century, has announced it will be closing its doors permanently at the end of January.
The market's sales have declined 10 percent annually over the past five years, according to owner Jim Magee, while expenses have increased.
The "complexities and declining in-store sales due to COVID-19" were another factor in Magee's decision to shutter.

The pandemic hit last year about the same time the market was served an eviction notice by its landlord, Weston Shopping Center Associates. Peter's had been in arrears from August 2019, according to the notice.
The market had attempted a last-ditch effort in the form of a GoFundMe page, but there would be no Hollywood ending.

"Please know the Town of Weston and the people who live here have meant everything to us during the nearly 50 years we have been in business," Magee posted on Facebook. "We will miss our loyal customers, the energy in the store, the incredible number of young Westonites who have worked with us, and of course, our favorite Peter's sandwiches. We hope that you will remember us kindly and be respectful of the impossibly difficult circumstances leading to our closing."
