Publisher Shutting Down Easton, Weston and Redding Newspapers

Ridgefield-based HAN is ending publication of the Easton Courier, Monroe Courier, Redding Pilot, Stratford Star and Weston Forum.

EASTON / WESTON / REDDING, CT — In a notification on The Aspetuck News website, Martin V. Hersam, publisher and CEO at the paper's parent HAN Network, announced the closing of local newspapers The Easton Courier, Weston Forum and Redding Pilot.

“Due to economic forces buffeting our industry we are rescaling our business again," the publisher said. "The recent volatility of the newsprint market made our options clear.”

Also shuttering are the local papers' sister sites, The Monroe Courier and Stratford Star. Avoiding the ax will be The Darien Times, New Canaan Advertiser, Wilton Bulletin, Ridgefield Press, Milford Mirror, Trumbull Times and Shelton Herald.

"These are beautiful towns with remarkable residents and we enjoyed being their print and digital local news source," Hersham said. "Newspapering is a business we truly love and it saddens us to leave after such a long run. Unfortunately we could not operate at a financial loss here any longer.”
