Redding Referendum: Here Are The Results

Residents approved the town and school budgets for 2021-22, as well as all the capital expenditure requests on the referendum Tuesday.

REDDING, CT — Residents approved the town and school budgets for 2021-22, as well as all the capital expenditure requests on the referendum Tuesday, according to the results reported by the town Tuesday evening shortly before 11:00.

The $51,112,770 budget passed 843 to 277 votes. The spending plan includes $15,377,798 for the Town Operating Budget, $23,061,038 for the Redding Board of Education Budget and $12,673,934 for Redding’s share of the Region No. 9 Budget. The budgets cover July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.

Voters also accepted a $24.6 million operating budget for the Region 9 School District. Redding's share $12.6 million, Easton's portion of that will be $11.9 million. The budget covers July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022. Redding voters approved the plan 837 to 282, and Easton voters passed it 1,313 votes to 715.

The construction of a $65,000 pavilion and $35,000 playground at Redding Community Center, to be funded by a state grant, was passed 888 votes to 232.

Voters also agreed to allow $145,000 of the capital fund surplus to be used for repairs to the boardwalk at Lonetown Marsh ($35,000), replacement of Town Hall hearing room windows and roof ($75,000) and outside paint at Town Hall ($35,000). The referendum passed 878 votes to 240.

Finally, Redding voters approved a draw on the Debt Reserve Fund of $342,000. The expenditure will be used for outside paint at Redding Community Center ($80,000), building repairs at Lonetown Farmhouse ($27,000), a mechanics bay slab at the Highway Department ($30,000),
sweeper refurbishment at the Highway Department ($30,000), a combination backhoe/loader at the Highway Department ($145,000), and a server for police vehicle cameras ($30,000). The referendum passed 868 votes to 250.
