Report: Weston College Student Expelled for Altering Grades

The former Miami University student and his fraternity brother now face criminal charges, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

A former Miami University who calls Weston home was expelled from the school earlier this month for allegedly altering grades, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

After four-month investigation, university officials determined that Beckley Munson Parker, 21, changed grades in 17 of his classes. Altogether, officials detected the Westonite made 70 grade changes—27 of which were for members of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity to which Parker belonged.

Parker—along with his fraternity brother, David Lucien Callahan, 22, of Cambridge, Mass.—were expelled on March 8. Parker faces up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine for each of the six misdemeanor charges against him, according to a Miami University press release. Callahan is charged with three misdemeanors for allegedly changing his own grade once and the grades of two other students twice.

According to the press release, Parker used a key logger on his professors' computers. That device keeps track of keystrokes, which Parker then used to figure out his professors' user names and passwords to the school's grading system. He logged in with that information and changed his own grades as well as the grades of more than 50 students to cover his tracks, the release says. Those other students likely didn't even realize their grades had been changed.

During the investigation, school officials also saw Parker had downloaded tests, midterms and finals, which fraternity brothers used to get better grades, according to the Enquirer.
