Collapsed Man Actually Struck, Killed By Vehicle: Wethersfield PD

A man thought to have died after collapsing while shoveling was later determined to have been fatally hit by a vehicle, according to police.

WETHERSFIELD, CT — A man thought to have died after collapsing while shoveling was determined to have been hit by a vehicle, according to Wethersfield police.

Emergency crews responded to the 200 block of Longvue Drive around 2:50 a.m. on Dec. 17 on the report of an unconscious person in the snow.

At that time, police believed the man, identified as 57-year-old Paul Bonfiglio of Longvue Drive, had collapsed while shoveling the heavy snow. Emergency responders provided medical attention and Bonfiglio was taken to Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Lt. Donald Crabtree.

Crabtree said the Chief Medical Examiner’s office later determined that Bonfiglio sustained injuries “consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle.”

The Mid-State Accident Investigation Team and the Wethersfield Police Detective Bureau are continuing to investigate the incident.
